Clwb Golff Nefyn

The golf course at Nefyn sits on a proper stretch of North Wales coastline, all windswept greens and sea views that'll distract you from your swing. It's a links course - the kind where the rough genuinely bites and the weather changes every twenty minutes - and it demands respect from anyone who plays here.

Golfers will get the most from it, obviously. This isn't a casual nine holes after lunch; it's a full day commitment if you want to do it justice. The course has real character, built into the landscape rather than imposed on it, and you'll spend half the round spotting views across towards Pwllheli and beyond. Non-players won't find much here, mind - it's a working golf club, not a visitor attraction with cafes and gift shops.

It's free to visit if you're a member or booking a round, but green fees apply for casual play. Allow a good four to five hours for eighteen holes, especially if the wind's up. Spring through autumn is optimal, though winter brings its own challenge if you're after solitude.

If you're based at one of the glamping spots nearby - Away From It All or Tyn Ddol, both highly rated - Nefyn makes a logical detour. It's close enough to Pwllheli to slot into a broader holiday exploring the Llŷn Peninsula. Not a must-do unless golf's your thing, but if it is, you'll find a proper course that hasn't been sanitised for mass appeal.
