Christ Church [Scottish Episcopal] : Lochgilphead

Tucked away on the main street in Lochgilphead, Christ Church is a solid Victorian church that won't take long to visit but gives you a genuine sense of the town's religious heritage. Built in the Scottish Episcopal tradition, it's a working church first and foremost - not a museum piece. The interior has that quiet, restful quality you get in smaller Scottish churches, with decent stained glass and the kind of atmosphere that makes you actually want to sit down for five minutes.

It's really for the curious rather than dedicated ecclesiastical tourists. If you're staying at Lochgilphead Caravan Park just up the road, you could pop in while you're exploring the town centre - takes twenty minutes maximum including a proper look around. The building itself is handsome enough from the outside to photograph if you're into Victorian architecture.

The Pod Over By, just a couple of miles away, is the better option if you want somewhere more characterful to base yourself, though both parks put you within easy reach of Lochgilphead's shops and restaurants. The church does still hold services, so ring ahead if you want to know opening times rather than turning up on spec. Not a reason to drive across Argyll for, but well worth ten minutes if you're already in town.
