Chapel Rock Pool

The walk down to Chapel Rock Pool from Perranporth takes about twenty minutes and winds through coastal scrub before opening onto a proper cove. The pool itself is a natural rock formation that fills with seawater at high tide, creating a sheltered bathing spot that feels like someone's carved a swimming pool straight into the cliffs. It's calm, contained, and about as close as you'll get to a guaranteed dip without the usual Atlantic churn battering you about.

This works best for families with younger kids or anyone who finds the open beach a bit much. Older children and strong swimmers might find it tame - there's not the thrill of proper waves here, which is either the whole point or a disappointment depending on what you're after. The rock itself is slippery and jagged in places, so proper footwear matters. Low tide exposes more rock than water, so timing your visit for the hours either side of high tide is essential or you'll trudge down for nothing but a damp walk.

It's free and accessible round the clock, with no facilities to speak of - bring what you need. Allow an hour round trip if you're just after a quick paddle, longer if you're planning to linger. The surrounding cliffs are worth a walk along either way, and you're only a short drive from Tollgate Farm or Haven Perran Sands if you're based at either. The cove itself gets quiet outside peak summer weeks, which is when it's genuinely lovely.
