Cefn Yr Ogof

The walk up Cefn Yr Ogof rewards you with proper views across the Conwy Valley and out towards the coast - that's the whole appeal, really. It's a modest peak by most standards, but the approach from Abergele is straightforward enough for families who don't mind a bit of climbing without needing ropes and harnesses.

You're looking at a couple of hours round trip depending on fitness and how long you linger at the top. The ridge walk itself is the thing - high enough to feel like you've earned it, not so high that afternoon clouds ruin your outing. Clear days are essential here; the view on a grey one is decidedly ordinary.

This isn't a technical climb. Decent boots help but it's doable for anyone with reasonable fitness and a willingness to push uphill. Families with older kids will manage fine. The younger ones might find the descent tedious.

It slots well alongside the coastal bits - you can combine it with a walk on the beach without the day feeling rushed. The larger parks further afield like Parkdean Resorts Ty Mawr are only a short drive, so it's accessible from anywhere in the area.

Free to walk, no facilities at the top, and no visitor infrastructure to speak of. That's part of its charm, frankly. It's a genuine hill walk rather than a designed tourist attraction.
