Caswell Bay Beach Swansea

The sweep of golden sand at Caswell Bay stretches out like something from a postcard - proper Welsh coastal charm without the crowds you'd find at Tenby or Newquay. It's a Blue Flag beach, which means the water's clean and the facilities are decent, and on a decent day the light hits the bay in a way that makes you understand why people bother living in Swansea at all.

You get the full package here: a mile or so of sand, rock pools that kids can spend hours in, and enough space that even in summer you're not packed shoulder-to-shoulder. The eastern end has cliffs that offer some dramatic backdrops if you're into that sort of thing. Parking's straightforward, there's a café nearby for chips and a cuppa, and the lifeguard presence in summer means you can actually relax instead of constantly scanning for swimmers in trouble.

It's worth the drive if you're staying at any of the caravan parks within striking distance - Nicholaston Farm or Three Cliffs Bay Holiday Park are both close enough that you could make it a regular spot during your week. Families with young kids will get the most out of it; teenagers might find it a bit tame unless they're surfers. The beach is sheltered enough for paddling but open enough for proper swimming. Allow a solid half-day, longer if you've got little ones building sandcastles. Low tide is when the beach really opens up - that's when you'll find the best pools and the firmest sand for walking.
