Castell Mawr Rock

Scrambling up this modest rocky outcrop near Pentraeth rewards you with proper views across Red Wharf Bay and the Anglesey countryside. Castell Mawr Rock isn't towering by any stretch - more of a satisfying clamber than a serious climb - but the 360-degree panorama from the top makes it well worth the effort.

Families with older kids will enjoy the mini-adventure, though toddlers might find the rocky scramble a bit much. The route up is straightforward enough, following worn paths through the heather, but you'll want decent walking boots for the final rocky section. Takes about 20 minutes each way from the nearest parking.

Best tackled on a clear day when you can see across to Snowdonia and along the coast towards Beaumaris. Early morning or late afternoon light shows off the surrounding farmland beautifully, and you'll often have the summit to yourself.

Perfectly positioned for a quick adventure if you're staying at one of the nearby holiday parks around Red Wharf Bay. St. David's Park and Porthllongdy Farm are practically on the doorstep, making this an easy leg-stretcher between beach days. The rock makes a good halfway point for longer coastal walks, or just a decent excuse to work up an appetite for fish and chips in Pentraeth afterwards.
