Carr Plantation

A proper woodland walk just inland from Driffield, Carr Plantation is the sort of place you might stumble upon by accident and be pleasantly surprised. It's a working forest with wide tracks running through, good for stretching your legs without needing a map or special kit. The trees are dense enough to feel like you've properly got away from things, even though you're only minutes from town.

Walkers will get the most out of it - there's enough space to do a decent loop, and the tracks are firm underfoot most of the year. Kids might enjoy it for an hour or so, though there's not much in the way of features or drama, so younger ones could get restless. It's the sort of place to pop into if you're based at one of the caravan parks near Barmston Beach or Skipsea Sands and fancy a quiet morning in the trees before heading to the coast.

Being a working plantation rather than a manicured nature reserve, it lacks the polish of some forest attractions. That said, there's something honest about it - you get genuine woodland without the visitor centre and ice cream van. Bring decent footwear if it's been wet. No facilities that we're aware of, so plan accordingly. It's free to access and works well as a half-hour detour on your way between Driffield and the coastal holiday parks nearby.
