Capel Y Porth

Capel Y Porth sits on the outskirts of Porthmadog, a small whitewashed chapel that won't take long to find but rewards a quick visit if you're in the area. It's a proper slice of Welsh religious heritage - the kind of place where the walls have absorbed centuries of local worship and the interior feels genuinely lived-in rather than museumified.

The chapel itself is unpretentious. You get the traditional stone construction, modest interior, and that particular smell of old wood and time that only Welsh chapels seem to manage. If you're into ecclesiastical architecture or keen on how ordinary communities worshipped over the generations, it's worth a stop. It's the sort of thing that works best as an add-on to a longer Porthmadog exploration rather than a destination in itself. Free access as far as I can tell, though it's worth checking locally if you're making a special trip.

Staying at one of the nearby parks - Greenacres or Black Rock Sands are closest and actually decent for families - gives you easy access here alongside walks around the coast and into Snowdonia proper. It's not going to blow your mind, but it's the kind of cultural pit-stop that makes a holiday feel properly rounded rather than just beachbound.
