Nursery Wood

A woodland walk just outside Porthmadog that feels properly removed from the seaside hustle, Nursery Wood is the sort of place locals know and visitors stumble upon by accident. It's not a manicured attraction with visitor centres or admission fees - just trees, paths, and the kind of quiet you don't get much anymore.

The walk takes you through mature woodland with decent paths underfoot, nothing too demanding. You'll find native species and the occasional surprise - a fallen tree that's become a climbing frame, shafts of light through the canopy on a good day. It's the sort of spot where kids will actually engage with the outdoors rather than demand to be entertained.

Worth allowing an hour, maybe ninety minutes if you're the sort who stops to look at things. It's free, obviously, and there's no formal anything - no car park to speak of, no facilities, just space. Go early if you can, before the afternoon crowd from Porthmadog.

If you're staying at one of the caravan parks dotted round here - Greenacres, Black Rock Sands, or Ty'n Llan are all within a few miles - this makes a proper morning out without the faff of a destination. Pairs well with a coastal walk or a poke around Porthmadog itself. Families with younger kids who like trees more than towns will get the most from it. Don't expect views or visitor infrastructure. Expect woodland and quiet.
