Campbell's Magnolia

There's a rather splendid magnolia tree on the corner of Bethel Road in Swansea that locals have been fussing over for generations. It's the sort of thing you might walk past and miss entirely - just a gnarled, ancient specimen standing there with pale pink blossoms in spring - but stop and you'll understand why Campbell's Magnolia has earned its place in the city's affections. The tree itself is the draw, really. Nothing complicated. Visit in April or May when it's in full flower and you'll see why people make the trip. It's a proper moment of calm amid Swansea's residential streets.

This isn't a major tourist attraction with visitor facilities or queues. There's no admission charge, no cafe, no gift shop. It's free, it's always there, and it takes about ten minutes to appreciate properly. You don't need to allow much time at all - pop by, take a photograph, move on. Best in late morning when the light's decent and before the crowds from the nearby town centre drift this way.

For anyone staying at Blackhills Leisure or Swansea Marina Tourer Park, it's barely a detour. If you're already exploring Swansea proper with kids, they might find it a bit underwhelming on its own - it's a tree, after all - but pair it with a proper walk along the Swansea seafront or a visit to the National Waterfront Museum and it slots in nicely. Spring visitors especially should make the effort. It's a small thing, but that's rather the point.
