Camber Sands Beach Zone B

The stretch of sand at Camber, just outside Rye, goes on forever - properly massive at low tide. Zone B is the quieter section if you're after something less crowded than the main beach area, though you'll want to check the tide tables before you head down because the beach is tidal and exposed at low water.

It's a working beach with a genuine seaside feel rather than a manicured resort vibe. Families with young kids do well here because the sand is wide and relatively flat, giving you room to breathe. Older children like it for paddling and shell hunting. What you won't find is tons of facilities - a few cafes and shops around the main beach, but nothing fancy.

Walkers get something decent too. The coastal path connects through to Winchelsea Beach if you fancy extending a walk, though the going can be soft underfoot in places. Bring proper shoes if you're doing more than a quick stroll.

If you're staying at one of the holiday parks nearby - Parkdean Resorts Camber Sands is basically on the doorstep, or Rye Harbour if you want something quieter - you can walk straight onto the beach from your caravan. Free to access, naturally. Allow a couple of hours minimum, longer if you're actually swimming rather than just having a look. Autumn and spring are nicest; summer gets rammed and January is honestly a bit bleak unless you're after dramatic grey skies.
