Caerfai Beach

Purple sandstone cliffs drop down to this small pebble beach that feels properly secluded despite being just a short walk from the coast path. The rock pools here are absolutely cracking - kids will spend hours hunting for crabs and anemones while you soak up the dramatic Pembrokeshire scenery.

Getting down requires a bit of scrambling over rocks, so it's not buggy-friendly, but that's exactly what keeps the crowds away. The beach faces west, making it lovely for evening visits when the light hits those distinctive cliffs just right. Swimming is possible at high tide, though the pebbles make it less comfortable than the sandy beaches further up the coast.

Families staying at nearby Caerfai Bay Caravan & Tent Park have it made - you're literally on the doorstep. For everyone else, it's well worth the detour from Haverfordwest, especially if you're walking the coast path anyway. The beach works brilliantly as part of a longer coastal walk, with St Non's Chapel and St Davids both within striking distance.
