Burnmouth Parish Church

The church sits tucked above the cliffs at Burnmouth, a small working fishing village that time has largely forgotten. It's a modest stone building, whitewashed and straightforward - no fancy spires or Victorian additions, just a proper working parish church that's been here since medieval times, serving the same families for generations.

Inside, it's austere in the way old Scottish border churches are. The stone is cold, the light comes through simple windows, and there's a real sense of people having worshipped in this exact spot for centuries. The setting is what gets you though - you're practically on the clifftop, with views down to the fishing boats and the North Sea beyond. On a clear day you can see right along the coast towards Berwick-upon-Tweed, just a few miles south.

It's not a major draw in itself, and you won't spend more than twenty minutes inside. But if you're staying at Haven Berwick Holiday Centre and fancy a walk with some actual substance to it, the clifftop path down to Burnmouth is cracking. The church makes a natural stopping point - somewhere to catch your breath and soak in the history of this rough, honest stretch of coast.

Worth visiting if you're in the area and like old buildings with stories. Less worth making a special trip for. The real appeal is the walk and the light through those narrow windows.
