Bàrr Mòr

The walk up Bàrr Mòr isn't long, but it's steep enough that you'll feel it in your legs. This Argyll peak sits roughly 3 miles from Lochgilphead, and on a clear day the views across to the Firth of Clyde and the islands beyond are genuinely worth the effort. The summit itself is moorland - exposed, windswept, and thoroughly Scottish. You're not getting woodland strolls here; it's open hillside all the way up.

Give yourself a couple of hours for the round trip, depending on fitness. The terrain is rough in places, so proper boots matter more than the modest height might suggest. History buffs might be interested to know this corner of Argyll has Iron Age fort remains scattered about, though Bàrr Mòr itself is more about the views than the archaeology.

It's best tackled in reasonably settled weather - rain rolls in quickly here and visibility vanishes. Late spring through early autumn works well. Winter brings short daylight hours and boggy ground that'll test your patience.

It's not a showstopping mountain - don't expect Alpine drama - but it's exactly the kind of local fell walk that works brilliantly when you're based in the area and the weather cooperates.
