Brinken Wood

You'll find Brinken Wood tucked into the New Forest landscape just outside Brockenhurst, and it's one of those places that rewards a proper wander. The woodland here is dense and atmospheric - all towering conifers mixed with beech and oak, the kind of forest floor that's thick with needles and moss. What makes it worth the detour is the sheer quietness. Unlike some of the better-known New Forest trails, you won't trip over school groups or weekend joggers. There's a real sense of stepping away from things.

It's brilliant for walkers who want something straightforward without the crowds, though the paths can get muddy and uneven after rain, so decent boots are non-negotiable. Families with younger kids might find the density of trees a bit much - there's not the open heathland variety you get elsewhere in the Forest. If you're after a quick leg-stretch, allow 45 minutes to an hour. If you've got time to amble and actually notice things, make it two hours.

From a holiday park perspective, it sits well within striking distance of Setthorns Campsite and Holmsley Campsite - both within easy driving. The beauty of basing yourself in one of those spots is you can do Brinken Wood as a morning activity before heading elsewhere in the New Forest, or save it for an afternoon when you want somewhere low-key. No facilities onsite, mind, so plan accordingly.
