About Brands Hill
What you get up top is genuine Northumberland wildness. On a clear day the visibility is tremendous, with the Cheviots rolling away toward Scotland and the valleys falling away beneath you. The summit itself isn't dramatic - no dramatic rock formations or cairns, just open moorland - but that's rather the point. This is hill-walking country, not a tourist trap.
It suits walkers and anyone after proper outdoor graft without needing serious scrambling skills. Families with older children will manage it fine; younger kids might find it a bit of a slog depending on their legs and your patience. Allow a couple of hours return including stopping time.
If you're based at Riverside Wooler Holiday Park or Highburn House just down the road, this makes an excellent morning's work before lunch. The Cheviot range has plenty more peaks nearby if you're keen to string a few walks together. Weather matters enormously here - check the forecast before heading up, as the exposure means cloud can roll in quickly and visibility drops to nothing.
