Bothen (Hyde) Hill

Standing at 191 metres, this modest hill just outside Bridport rewards the short climb with sweeping views across the Dorset countryside. The walk up takes about 20 minutes from the nearest parking spot, following well-trodden paths through farmland and scrubby grassland.

Families with energetic kids will find it manageable - the gradient's gentle enough that most children won't complain too much on the way up. From the summit, you can see across to the coast and inland towards the rolling hills that make this part of Dorset so lovely. It's not dramatic stuff, but on a clear day the panorama stretches for miles.

Walkers staying at the nearby holiday parks will appreciate having a proper hill walk within easy reach. Parkdean Resorts West Bay Holiday Park and Freshwater Beach Holiday Park are both less than two miles away, making this a decent morning excursion before hitting the beach. The paths can get muddy after rain, so proper walking boots are wise.

Timing matters here. Early morning or late afternoon light shows the landscape at its best, and you'll likely have the place to yourself. Allow an hour and a half for the round trip if you want to linger at the top. It's free, naturally, being open countryside, though do respect the farmland you'll cross to reach it.
