Bosherston Lily Ponds

Three interconnected pools sit just south of Pembroke, lined with water lilies that turn the whole place into something rather special come summer. You walk down a gentle track through woodland - maybe ten minutes from the car park - and suddenly there's this open water framed by trees, the lily pads spreading across the surface in white and yellow blooms if you time it right. It's free, low-key, and won't take more than an hour unless you're the sort who sits with a book for half the afternoon.

The ponds were dug out as fish reserves centuries ago, though these days they're more about the wildlife and the walk. Dragonflies dart about, herons fish the shallows if you're lucky, and the whole thing feels properly removed from the world despite being minutes from Pembroke town. Families with younger kids will manage the walk fine - it's flat and well-trodden - though there's not much to actually do once you're there beyond looking and listening.

Walkers and photographers get the most from it, particularly between May and July when the lilies are at their peak. Winter visits are quieter but muddier. The nearby caravan parks - Parke Farm and Sky Meadow are closest at under two miles - make this an easy add-on to a broader Pembrokeshire break. If you're based at one of them, you could knock this out as a morning stroll before heading to Bosherston beach proper or pushing on towards the Castlemartin range.
