Quarry Clump

The name alone tells you what to expect - a working quarry surrounded by mature woodland, just a short drive from Pembroke. Quarry Clump is the kind of place locals know and visitors stumble upon by accident, which frankly is how it should be discovered.

It's a proper woodland walk through dense trees with the added interest of the old quarry cutting through the middle. The contrast between the quiet forest paths and the exposed rock face gives the place genuine character. You're looking at maybe an hour or so for a decent loop, depending on how far you fancy venturing. The walking is straightforward - nothing technical, but the ground can be muddy after rain, so bring decent boots.

Families with primary-age kids will get the most from this. There's enough variety to keep them interested - the trees, the quarry itself as a talking point, maybe spotting wildlife - without requiring them to summit anything. Serious hikers might find it a bit short for a main event, but it works brilliantly as a half-day addition to a Pembrokeshire trip.

Stay at Sky Meadow Glamping or Freshwater East Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite, both within a couple of miles, and you've got easy access. It's free, naturally, and you can visit whenever you like. Go early morning if possible - the light through the trees is better and you'll likely have the place to yourself.
