High above Whitby, Boots Corner delivers one of those rare viewpoints where the effort actually matches the reward. You're standing on moorland that drops away sharply toward the town and the North Sea beyond - the kind of vantage point where you can properly see how Whitby sits in its landscape, all red-tiled roofs and church spires tumbling down to the harbor.

The walk up from town takes maybe twenty minutes if you're not dawdling, which means it works well as a half-hour detour rather than a full afternoon commitment. On a clear day the visibility is excellent. On a grey one - and there will be grey ones - the mist rolls in fast, so timing matters. It's the sort of spot where locals bring cameras at golden hour, and for good reason.

Families with younger kids might find the moorland walk a bit exposed and windswept rather than thrilling, but teenagers and serious walkers will appreciate the straightforward ascent and the payoff. The views work better in late spring through early autumn when the weather cooperates.

If you're based at Whitby Holiday Park or Broadings Farm, this makes a proper morning excursion before heading into town proper. Northcliffe & Seaview's location further out means you'd be driving back, which rather defeats the point. Free to visit, naturally - it's moorland - and there's nothing to buy once you're up there, so bring a flask.
