Boncyn Cammen

The walk up Boncyn Cammen from Llanfyllin isn't going to break you, but it's steep enough that you'll feel like you've earned the view at the top. This isn't one of those tourist-trap summits - you'll likely have the place to yourself, which is precisely the point. The peak sits in proper Mid Wales moorland, with the Berwyn range rolling out around you and, on a clear day, sight lines that stretch miles across Powys.

You're looking at around an hour up and the same back down, so it's ideal for a morning outing if you're based at one of the glamping spots nearby. Cae Nant and Camp Plas are both within spitting distance, making this a solid half-day activity to break up a longer park stay. Bring proper boots - the ground gets boggy in patches, and the path can be slippery even when it looks dry.

Walkers will get the most from this. It's not a family push-the-buggy job, and there's no café at the summit or interpretive boards spelling everything out. What you get instead is wind, views, and the kind of quiet you don't find within fifty miles of a town. The nearest proper facilities are back in Llanfyllin, so bring water and something to eat. Go early in the day if possible - cloud rolls in fast in these hills, and you'll want good visibility for the walk up.
