Bona Tom

Bona Tom sits just outside Whitby, a modest but memorable outcrop that rewards a short walk with proper coastal views. It's not dramatic - you won't find sheer cliffs or dramatic rock formations - but the vantage point works well if you're already in the area and fancy stretching your legs.

The walk itself takes about fifteen minutes from the car park, following a straightforward path that doesn't demand fell boots or a map. You get the North Sea spread out before you, and on a clear day the view back towards Whitby's roofline is worth the effort. Clear days matter here; in mist it's fairly forgettable.

This is the kind of spot that works best for families who want a proper walk without committing to a half-day hike, or for anyone staying at one of the nearby touring parks - Whitby Cliff Top is just a couple of minutes away by car, and Broadings Farm not much further. Walkers using Whitby as a base will find it fits neatly into a morning's exploration before heading into town for lunch.

Don't expect facilities, crowds, or anything beyond the landmark itself. It's free and you'll need maybe an hour door-to-door. On a busy summer weekend Whitby proper will be rammed, so this offers a quieter alternative if you just want air and space. Not essential, but genuinely pleasant on the right day.
