Bodlondeb Wood

The walk up Bodlondeb Wood, just outside Conwy, is one of those proper rewarding afternoon outings that doesn't demand a full day's commitment. You're climbing through dense woodland towards a modest peak - nothing Alpine about it, but the views across the Conwy valley and towards Snowdonia are genuinely worth the effort once you break through the trees.

It's a straightforward route that takes most people between 90 minutes and two hours up and back. The path winds through beech and oak, muddy in patches after rain but nothing technical. There's a real sense of quiet up here - not many people venture beyond Conwy's castle walls to find it.

Walkers will get the most from this one. It's not a destination for families with small children who demand dramatic views or a cafe at the summit - there's neither. But if you've got kids aged eight or older who can manage a steady uphill push, they'll enjoy spotting the Conwy Estuary opening out below. The woodland itself is interesting enough to hold attention on the way up.

There's no visitor centre or facilities that I found. It's free to access and you can park near the trailhead. Spring is excellent when the woodland floor comes alive, though autumn colours are decent too.

If you're camping at one of the parks dotted round Conwy - Tan Y Bryn or Hafan y Gogarth are closest - this makes a perfect break from the busier attractions. You'll have the wood mostly to yourself on weekday mornings.
