Blanchflower Stadium

Football grounds aren't usually the draw when you're planning a caravan holiday, but Blanchflower Stadium in Lisburn is worth a quick stop if you're staying nearby. It's home to Lisburn Distillery FC, one of Northern Ireland's oldest clubs, and the place has proper character - the kind of ground where you can still feel the history of local football running through it.

You won't need more than 30 minutes to have a look round, and the admission is free if you just want to stand outside and soak it in. Match days are obviously the thing if you time it right - the atmosphere is genuine and unpretentious, a far cry from the glossy stadiums down south. Families with football-mad kids will get more out of it than anyone else, though even casual fans might enjoy the sense of a community club that's been going since 1882.

The stadium sits handily between Belfast and the caravan parks dotted around Dundonald. Dundonald Touring Caravan Park is just 2.6 miles away, making it a reasonable walk if you fancy the stretch after a day on the road. The Pods at Streamvale, a proper glamping setup, is barely further at 3 miles. Neither park is far enough away to make getting here a hassle, but close enough that you're not eating up a whole afternoon on the journey. Go on a matchday for the real deal, or on a quiet day if you just want to appreciate the bones of a club that's genuinely rooted in its town.
