Bishop's Wood

Bishop's Wood is a proper woodland walk tucked into the Swansea suburbs - the kind of place locals know about but tourists often miss. You're looking at broadleaf forest with decent-sized trees, some footpaths that wind through without being overly manicured, and genuine green space that feels removed from the city despite being so close to it.

The wood itself is free to access and takes roughly an hour to walk through depending on which routes you pick. There's no visitor centre or facilities to speak of, so bring what you need. It's best in late spring or autumn when the canopy light changes everything - summer can feel a bit dense and shadowy.

Walkers will find it worthwhile if they're doing a longer Swansea valley route, but it's not a destination on its own unless you live nearby. The paths are muddy after rain, sometimes overgrown, occasionally confusing at junctions - which some people love and others find annoying. Families with young kids might manage an hour's poke about, but there's no play space or obvious points of interest that'll hold their attention.

If you're staying at Greenways Premier Leisure Park or Oxwich Camping Park, Bishop's Wood makes a decent morning sortie before heading elsewhere in Gower. It's a real wood, not a theme-parked version, which means it rewards curiosity but won't hand you a day out. Go if you're already in the area and enjoy the actual business of tramping through trees.
