Beelsby Top

The walk up to Beelsby Top rewards you with the sort of view that makes you understand why the Lincolnshire Wolds matter to people who live here. It's not dramatic - this isn't the Lake District - but on a clear day you get proper rolling countryside stretching out, and that's genuinely lovely.

From Market Rasen, it's a straightforward climb through farmland and then onto the open hilltop itself. The summit sits at around 490 feet, which doesn't sound like much until you're actually doing the walk and realising how exposed the top is to the wind. Allow a good hour there and back, maybe ninety minutes if you're taking photos and enjoying the views properly.

This is decent walking country rather than a day-trip destination in itself. You'd want to pair it with other bits of the Wolds - Wolds View Country Park is only about five miles away, so basing yourself there for a long weekend makes sense. Families with teenagers will get something out of it; younger kids might find it a bit boring, honestly. It's walkers' terrain, and there's nothing to actually do at the top except stand there and look about.

Go on a weekday if you can, when it's properly quiet. Weekends bring the local fell-running crowd out. The views work best in that window between April and September when the light lingers. Bring a jumper though - it's always windier up there than you'd expect from the bottom.
