Beaumont Park

The woodland at Beaumont Park spreads across a decent chunk of land just outside Holmfirth, offering proper shade and some decent walking if you fancy escaping the town centre. It's the sort of place where you can wander off the main paths without getting too lost, though it's not exactly a wild ramble - the trees are well-established and the ground generally decent underfoot. You'll see oak and beech mostly, with enough open clearings to remind you where you are rather than feeling swallowed by forest.

Walkers will appreciate the space here. It's good for families with kids old enough to manage a couple of hours on their feet without complaint, though toddlers might find it a bit samey after a while. The real draw is that it's accessible from Holmfirth itself, so you're not driving miles to get under the canopy. If the weather's decent, it's a solid way to break up a caravan park stay at Holme Valley or Secret Valley Escapes without needing to plan something elaborate.

The park seems to be free to wander, which is the main thing. Timing-wise, spring and early autumn are best - summer can get muggy under the trees, and winter mud is a genuine consideration. Allow a couple of hours if you're actually exploring rather than just popping in for twenty minutes. It won't blow your mind, but it's dependable green space when you need it.
