Badger Wood

A proper woodland walk rather than a manicured tourist trap, Badger Wood sits just outside Driffield and rewards you with quiet trails through mixed deciduous forest. The trees are dense enough that you'll lose the road noise within minutes, and the paths vary between easy strolls and slightly rougher tracks where roots catch your feet. In spring, bluebells carpet the forest floor; autumn brings that lovely damp leaf smell and the light turns golden and thin.

It's ideal for families with kids old enough to manage a mile or two without complaining, and walkers who want to stretch their legs without spending three hours on a moorland trek. History types won't find much to pore over here - it's more about the woodland itself than any particular stories. Allow an hour minimum if you're just doing a gentle loop, longer if you're the type to stop and listen.

No facilities that I'm aware of, so bring water and dress for weather. The ground gets muddy after rain, which is fine unless you've got pristine trainers to protect. Free to access, naturally - this is woodland walking, not a visitor centre.

If you're staying at Seaways Glamping or Yorkshire Wolds Glamping nearby, it's a decent option for breaking up the holiday routine, though don't expect dramatic vistas or rare wildlife sightings. It's simply a wood where you can breathe properly for an hour.
