The Amy Dillwyn Memorial sits quietly in the countryside just outside Swansea, a nature reserve dedicated to a woman most people have never heard of - and that's rather a shame. Dillwyn was a landowner and novelist in Victorian Wales who actually did something radical: she left her estate to be preserved as a nature reserve, which was virtually unheard of for a woman of her era.

It's a modest spot, not a grand visitor centre with gift shop and café. What you get instead is genuine woodland and open space where you can walk without encountering hordes. The reserve itself is straightforward - decent paths, local wildlife, the sort of place you'd spend an hour or two if you're into a gentle ramble rather than a destination hike. Birdwatchers will find it worthwhile; families with young kids might find it a bit thin on attractions unless they're keen on nature spotting.

Given it's only 5.8 miles from Nicholaston Farm Caravan & Camp Site, it works well as a half-day break from base camp - close enough to nip out to but far enough away to feel like you've gone somewhere.
