About Allt Lwyd
This is walker territory. Families with young children might find it a bit of a slog, but anyone who enjoys a good moorland ridge will find plenty to like here. The terrain's a mix of grass and stone, nothing technical, though it can get boggy in wet weather - wellies wouldn't go amiss. In autumn, when the heather's out, it's genuinely beautiful.
You'll want to allow a solid morning or early afternoon for the climb and descent. There's no visitor centre or facilities at the summit, so bring water and a packed lunch if you're staying long. The nearest town is Brecon, about half an hour's drive away, which is useful for supplies before you head out.
If you're based at Pencelli Castle or Cefn Cantref - both excellent spots for a walking holiday - Allt Lwyd makes an ideal day out without the crowds you get on bigger peaks. It's the sort of place where you might have the summit entirely to yourself on a weekday.
