About Twyn Llechfaen
You get commanding views down into the valleys and across to the higher peaks beyond. The summit itself is bare and windswept, so don't expect shelter. Most people knock this out in a couple of hours return, making it ideal if you're based at one of the nearby campsites - Pencelli Castle and Cefn Cantref are both within striking distance - and want something more than a gentle stroll but less demanding than tackling Pen y Fan.
It's free to access, obviously, being a hill. The terrain is straightforward underfoot without being a technical scramble. Families with teenagers will manage it fine. Younger kids might find it a slog depending on fitness.
Time it for late afternoon if weather permits and you'll catch the light gilding the ridges as the valleys shadow up below you. Early morning works too, though the Beacons catch clouds regularly, so check conditions before heading out. This isn't a must-do in its own right, but as part of a proper Brecon Beacons hillwalking week, it's a useful halfway point between easier riverside walks and the serious summits nearby.
