All Saints Church : Brantingham

The parish church sits quietly on the edge of Brantingham village, a few miles south of Brough, and it's one of those places that rewards a proper look rather than a quick snap from the car park. All Saints is essentially medieval - the chancel dates back to the 14th century - with a tower that's been added to and fiddled with over the centuries in that very English way. Inside, there's decent stained glass and some reasonably intact wall paintings that give you a real sense of what these spaces meant to people centuries ago. It's not a showstopper like some of Yorkshire's grander churches, but that's partly what makes it worth the detour.

Historically minded types will get the most from this one. The church sit near old Brantingham Hall - though the hall itself is private - and the whole setting feels genuinely old without being overdone or commercialised. You'll need twenty minutes, maybe half an hour if you're the thorough sort. Check locally for opening times as these smaller churches can be temperamental about access, though many stay open during daylight hours.

If you're based at one of the nearby caravan sites - Willow Pond is particularly well-regarded - this works as a quiet morning walk before heading to bigger attractions in the Wolds. It's the sort of place that costs nothing and feels like discovering something proper rather than ticking off a checkbox. Not for those after dramatic architecture or lengthy visitor facilities, but genuinely worthwhile if you like English churches with actual history still visible in their bones.
