Aldbury Nowers

The walk up Aldbury Nowers is a proper little leg-stretcher above the village of Aldbury, just outside Berkhamsted. It's not a mountain - more of a determined hillside really - but the views across the Chilterns once you're up top are absolutely worth the climb. You get proper countryside rolling away in all directions, with the village tucked below looking like someone's arranged it all just so.

The route itself is straightforward enough for families with kids who can manage a decent gradient. Walkers will appreciate it as a quick fix rather than an all-day commitment - you're looking at maybe an hour or so up and back depending on pace. It's free, obviously, being open countryside. The best time is early morning before the school runs clog up Aldbury itself, or late afternoon when the light's doing something interesting.

If you're camping in the area - and there's no shortage of sites within reach, from Norcott Campsite and Chiltern Yurts nearby to Merlin Farm further afield - this makes a cracking addition to a morning's exploration. Pair it with a walk through Aldbury village itself or a longer ramble across the Chiltern slopes and you've got a proper day sorted. The view's good, the walk's manageable, and it doesn't demand much planning. That's really all you need.
