Deffer Hill provides another excellent vantage point for walkers, while the Nicholas Saunderson Memorial tells the story of a remarkable 18th-century mathematician who lived locally.

What makes this corner of South Yorkshire special is its genuine working landscape. These aren't manicured tourist hills - they're proper farming country where sheep still graze and dry stone walls crisscross the moorland. The gallery scene around Penistone has quietly flourished too, with spaces like Grandad Fox and The Archway showcasing local artists.
