The capital of the Isle of Wight feels more like a market town that happens to be surrounded by water than a seaside resort. Newport sits right in the heart of the island, a proper working town where locals actually live rather than just visit for a fortnight. The high street has that authentic feel you get in places that aren't trying too hard to impress tourists.
