Stone houses line the main drag like actors waiting for their cue. Broadway calls itself the Jewel of the Cotswolds, and frankly, it's not wrong - though the summer crowds might make you question the wisdom of visiting in peak season.

The High Street runs dead straight for nearly a mile, flanked by honey-coloured limestone buildings that look like they've been lifted from a period drama set. Which they often are. You'll recognise Broadway from countless films and TV shows, but the real magic happens when you venture beyond the tourist shops. St Mary's Church sits quietly at one end, while Little Buckland Gallery showcases local artists' work - both worth a proper look.

Climb up to Broadway Tower and the views stretch for miles across three counties. The surrounding countryside is riddled with footpaths that lead through ancient woodlands like Thrift Wood and Squirrel Wood. History buffs will appreciate Cromwell's Seat, where the Lord Protector allegedly once rested, and Beckbury Camp reveals traces of Iron Age settlement.

The Cotswold Way long-distance path runs right through town, bringing walkers from Chipping Campden and beyond. Broadway sits perfectly for exploring both the northern and southern Cotswolds - Chipping Campden is just 6 miles north, while Winchcombe lies 8 miles southeast.

Staying at one of the nearby parks puts you within easy striking distance of Broadway's attractions without the parking hassles that plague the village centre. Several touring parks and glamping sites dot the surrounding countryside, offering proper countryside peace after a day dodging tour groups on the High Street.
