The famous Stump - St. Botolph's Church tower - dominates the skyline for miles around, a proper landmark that guided ships up the Witham for centuries.

Walk the town centre and you'll find a place that knows its worth without shouting about it. The Wednesday market still draws crowds from across the Fens, while the River Witham winds through town much as it has for generations. Boston Golf Club offers decent greens if you fancy a round, though the wind can be a proper challenge here.

Venture beyond town and the countryside reveals its quiet charms. Snipe Dales Nature Reserve makes for lovely walking - heathland and woodland tucked into the Wolds' gentle folds. It's a bit of a trek from Boston itself, but well worth it for the peace and birdsong. Hameringham Top gives you the area's best views, though 'top' is relative in this famously flat county.

Getting here is straightforward enough - the A52 runs straight through, and it's about 30 miles southeast of Lincoln. The train service connects to London via Sleaford, making it more accessible than you might expect.

Using one of the nearby holiday parks as your base makes perfect sense. You're close enough to explore Boston's historic streets and market, yet surrounded by that vast Fenland landscape that's unlike anywhere else in England. The silence here at night is something special - proper countryside quiet that city folk rarely experience.
