Santa's Grotto at ARK Wildlife Park

Every December, ARK Wildlife Park near Boston transforms one corner into a full Christmas operation, complete with a proper grotto where Father Christmas actually sits down with the kids. It's not some five-minute queue-and-snap situation - you get genuine interaction, a chance for little ones to chat about their Christmas lists, and usually a small gift to take home.

What makes this work is that it sits within a working wildlife park, so you're not driving to a seasonal pop-up in the middle of nowhere. Families staying at Wood Farm Camping or New Farm Holidays - both just under two miles away - can easily tick this off on a festive afternoon without losing half the day to logistics. The grotto runs through the peak Christmas season, though you'll need to check exact dates and whether admission to the park itself is required or if it's a separate charge.

Realistic take: young kids aged three to eight will absolutely love it. Teenagers won't. Adults find the wildlife park itself decent enough for a couple of hours, so if you're staying at Long Acres or Waites Farm Glamping further out, you could make an afternoon of it - see some animals, hit the grotto, grab food if it's available on-site. The Lincolnshire coast isn't far either, so it works as part of a broader park holiday.
