About Amlwch

Former copper port turned sleepy seaside town, Amlwch sits on Anglesey's rugged north coast where industrial heritage meets wild Welsh coastline. The town's character still echoes its mining heyday - when Parys Mountain's copper made this one of the world's busiest ports - though today it's a far quieter affair.

Wander down to the old harbour and you'll find remnants of that industrial past, including the Morris Brothers Memorial commemorating the mining pioneers who shaped the town. The real draw though is the surrounding countryside. Traeth Bach offers a lovely little stretch of sand when the tide's right, while the ancient Old Llanwenllwyfo Church and Eglwys St Gwenllwyfo provide glimpses into Anglesey's spiritual heritage.

North of town, Porth y Môr marks where the land dramatically meets the Irish Sea. It's proper wild up here - all craggy cliffs and crashing waves. The whole area sits within the Anglesey AONB, so the coastal walks are absolutely cracking. Y Storws adds another layer of history to explore, while Coed-y-Gell provides woodland respite from all that sea air.

Getting here's straightforward enough - Amlwch is about 20 minutes from Llangefni, Anglesey's main town, and well connected by the island's decent road network. The nearest train station is at Holyhead, about 45 minutes' drive.

Staying at one of the nearby holiday parks makes perfect sense. You've got Tyn Rhos Caravan Park right at Lligwy Bay for coastal access, while spots like Home Farm Caravan Park and Minffordd Caravan Park put you within easy reach of both Amlwch's industrial heritage and Anglesey's stunning northern coastline.
