Wye Crown Millennium Stone

You climb up to this stone marker on the Wye Downs near Faversham and suddenly the whole Kent countryside spreads out beneath you - proper rewarding effort for what's actually quite a modest walk. The Wye Crown Millennium Stone itself is a fairly straightforward thing: a commemorative marker placed to mark the year 2000, positioned at one of those vantage points that locals know and visitors often miss.

What makes it worth the trip is the view rather than the stone itself. On a clear day you can see right across the Swale towards Sittingbourne and beyond. The Downs roll away in front of you, fields stitched together like a patchwork quilt, and there's genuine quiet up there - the kind that makes you feel properly removed from the A2 traffic below.

Walkers get the most from this one. It's the sort of spot you'd build into a longer ramble across the Downs rather than visit solo, and families will find the ascent manageable without being trivial. Allow an hour to reach it from the car park at Wye if you're taking your time, though the keener types will do it faster.

The nearest base is Dunn Street Farm Campsite, just five miles away - close enough that you could easily work this into a morning walk before breakfast. It's free, obviously, and open whenever the weather looks decent. Worth fitting in if you're spending time in Faversham and fancy a bit of elevation and uncluttered views.
