A strip of green running through Tadcaster that feels more like a proper breathing space than a formal park. Woodlands Avenue Green gives you a bit of respite from the market town buzz without requiring a trek out into the countryside.

It's essentially a linear park where you can take a stroll, sit on a bench and watch the world go by, or let the kids burn off some energy on open grass. Nothing fancy - no play equipment to speak of, no visitor centre - but that's rather the point. On a decent day it's the sort of place locals use without fuss, and that tells you something about how well it works.

The walk takes twenty minutes end to end, maybe less if you're not lingering. Worth doing once if you're staying nearby, particularly if you're based at Wighill Park Glamping or Cawood Park just down the road. Both sites are strong options for a Yorkshire break, and having a proper green space within the town means you're not entirely dependent on driving elsewhere for fresh air.

Best visited on a dry day - there's little shelter if the weather turns. Early morning or late afternoon suits it better than midday, when the appeal rather flattens out. It won't keep you occupied for hours, but as part of a broader wander around Tadcaster's modest centre, it slots in nicely. Families with young children will find it serviceable rather than exceptional.
