Witton Country Park

The lake at Witton Country Park is the real draw here - a proper 33-acre spread of water and woodland just outside Blackburn that feels a world away from the town centre. You can walk the perimeter path, which takes the best part of an hour and gives you decent views across the water, or simply park up and let the kids loose on the grassy areas if you're after something low-key.

It's the kind of place that works best for families with younger children or anyone after a gentle half-morning stroll. Dog walkers love it, and there are picnic spots dotted around if you've brought supplies. The woodland sections are thin enough that you don't feel properly lost, but thick enough to feel like you've escaped the residential streets nearby.
