Winterslow Recreation Ground

A strip of grassland and woodland just outside Salisbury that feels properly removed from the town despite being barely two miles away. Winterslow Recreation Ground serves as a decent green space for an afternoon wander, with footpaths threading through scrub and open meadow - the sort of place where you might spot a buzzard or catch sight of deer if you're quiet about it.

It's not a destination that'll eat up your whole day. An hour's walk covers most of it comfortably, maybe ninety minutes if you're taking your time and stopping to look at birds. The ground is fairly flat, so it suits families with younger kids and anyone after an easy leg-stretch rather than a proper hike. Dog walkers seem to make regular use of it, and you'll understand why - there's enough space to let them properly run without feeling hemmed in.

If you're camping at Salisbury Hillside or The Meadow Glamping, this works as a useful circuit before breakfast or after you've had enough of the caravan. The Meadow's only four and a half miles away, so it's feasible for an evening stroll if the light's decent. The real draw here is simplicity - no entrance fees, no facilities to navigate, just open Hampshire countryside doing what it does. Worth knowing about if you're based nearby, but don't reroute your holiday to reach it.
