Idmiston Down

Idmiston Down sits on the chalk uplands just north of Salisbury, offering proper downland walking with genuine views across the Wiltshire landscape. It's one of those places where you'll find yourself on open grassland with almost nothing between you and the horizon - no cafes, no visitor centre, just turf and sky.

If you're camping in the area, Salisbury Hillside Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite is close enough for an easy morning walk, or any of the three local sites work fine as a hub for exploring the wider chalk downlands.

Honestly, Idmiston Down won't set your heart racing unless you're genuinely into downland walking. It's a solid addition to a Salisbury holiday rather than a destination in itself. The real appeal is the space and the solitude - something increasingly rare near main towns. Worth the detour if you're already in the area and fancy stretching your legs properly.
