Windmill Hill

Climbing the grassy slopes southeast of Exeter, you'll find one of Devon's more accessible peaks offering proper views across the Exe Valley. Windmill Hill sits at a modest but rewarding height, its summit crowned with the remnants of an old windmill that gives the hill its name.

Walkers of all abilities can tackle this one - the paths are well-defined and the gradient gentle enough for families with children. From the top, the panorama stretches across rolling Devon countryside towards Dartmoor on clear days. It's not the most dramatic peak you'll encounter, but there's something satisfying about reaching any summit, however small.

The walk up takes about 45 minutes from the nearest parking spots, making it an ideal morning or afternoon excursion from your holiday base. Castle Brake Holiday Park and Brownscombe Luxury Glamping are both within easy reach, as are several other parks dotted around this corner of Devon. Dog walkers particularly appreciate the open grassland at the top.
