Windmill Hill

The walk up Windmill Hill near Frodsham is a proper leg-burner, but the payoff is genuine. You get two hundred metres of elevation gain in about a mile, so come prepared with decent shoes and don't expect a gentle ramble. The summit rewards you with sprawling views across the Cheshire Plain - on clear days you can see the industrial sprawl of the Wirral bleeding into Wales. There's not much up there beyond the views themselves; no café, no visitor centre, just you and the countryside.

Walkers will love this. It's the sort of quick, punchy walk that families can manage in an afternoon, though younger kids might grumble at the climb. The route itself is straightforward and well-trodden. Allow forty-five minutes to the top, maybe longer if you stop for photos or catch your breath halfway.

Frodsham's only three miles away, which makes this dead convenient if you're based at any of the nearby holiday parks. Cheshire Glamping at Lady Heyes or The Ridgeway Country Holiday Park are both close enough that you could knock this out before breakfast without breaking a sweat. It works brilliantly as a morning activity before settling into the slower pace of park life. Honestly, if you're staying in the area and the weather's decent, you'd be daft to skip it. The views are legitimately good, and you'll have earned whatever you eat afterwards.
