Wilsthorpe Plantation

The walk through Wilsthorpe Plantation catches you by surprise if you're expecting manicured woodland. It's proper working forest - the kind where you'll find yourself on narrower paths threading between mature trees, with decent bits of open ground where light actually gets through. Nothing fancy, but that's rather the point.

This is the place for people who want a straightforward woodland stroll without the crowds you'd find at some of the bigger coastal attractions near Bridlington. The trees do their job - good shelter, bit of peace and quiet, the usual woodland smell. You'll spot the occasional clearing and the canopy overhead is thick enough that it's genuinely useful on drizzly days. Maybe forty minutes to an hour if you're taking it easy, longer if you fancy exploring the quieter corners.

Families with younger kids might find it a bit samey after the first half hour - there's no visitor centre, no facilities that I could see, nothing to break up the walk itself. But if you're a proper walker or someone who just wants to decompress among the trees without the theatre of it all, you'll get something here.

It works well as part of a broader East Yorkshire trip, especially if you're staying at Mr Moo's Touring Site. Pop in between beach visits to Bridlington or combine it with walks around the wider area. Free access, no faffing about with entry fees. Just turn up and walk.
