The East Yorkshire Coast AONB stretches along some proper dramatic coastline between Bridlington and Flamborough, where chalk cliffs rise up from the North Sea and the landscape shifts between working farmland, secret valleys, and stretches of shingle beach. You're free to walk it whenever you fancy - there's no entrance fee or opening hours to worry about. The whole area is designed for wandering: dramatic headlands, hidden coves, and enough cliff-top paths to keep you occupied for days.

Walkers will absolutely get the most from this. The chalk geology means the cliffs are constantly changing shape, which sounds dramatic but also means you need to stick to marked paths and take the erosion warnings seriously. Birdwatchers tend to get obsessed with this stretch too - it's a major migration route and breeding ground. Families with young legs will enjoy the coastal paths, though this isn't a gentle amble; it's proper walking territory with some steep bits. History buffs might appreciate the old fishing villages and Victorian coastal settlements dotted about, but this place is really about the landscape rather than heritage buildings.

Allow at least a half-day to properly explore a section. Early morning or late afternoon light off the water is genuinely worth the trip alone. If you're staying at South Cliff or South Shore Holiday Parks right near Bridlington, you're practically on the doorstep. The nearby caravan sites at Barmston Beach and Skipsea Sands give you access to quieter stretches of coast. Visit outside school holidays if possible - the paths get rammed in summer.
