Wilpshire Moor

The walk up to Wilpshire Moor takes you straight into proper Lancashire moorland, rolling open land with views that stretch back towards Blackburn and out across the Ribble Valley. It's not a dramatic peak - you won't feel like you've summited Everest - but that's actually the point. This is gentle, accessible walking territory that rewards you without demanding much in return.

The moor itself is fairly open and windswept, the kind of place where you notice weather. On a clear day the views are genuinely worth the effort. On a grey one, there's something rather atmospheric about it all. The walk takes a couple of hours from the village, and you'll likely see more sheep than people, which feels like a proper win if you're escaping the more tramped-over peaks elsewhere in the region.

This works well for families who want something more substantial than a country park stroll but less committed than tackling Pendle Hill further south. Walkers heading to nearby Pendle View Holiday Park or the cluster of caravan sites around Clitheroe will find this a natural addition to their itinerary - it's close enough to fit in without major planning. The moorland walking is good training for anything more ambitious you might do in the region.

Get there early if you go in summer; parking can be tight. The walk is free, obviously. Allow three hours if you're not rushing, and bring a windproof - the moor gets breezy.
