WIlliemont Hass

The walk up Williemount Hass, just outside Moffat, takes you through proper Lowland hill country - moorland and grass rather than dramatic peaks, but that's rather the point. The summit itself sits at a respectable height with views that stretch across the valley toward the Southern Uplands. It's the sort of place where you notice the landscape in layers rather than gasp at a single showstopper view.

Geology enthusiasts might get more out of it knowing the Lowlands' structure, but honestly, most people come for the quiet and the space. You won't find crowds here, which is precisely why it works.

Allow a couple of hours for the ascent and descent depending on your pace. There's no visitor centre or facilities at the top, so bring what you need. Best tackled on a clear day - the view's not worth much when cloud rolls in off the Irish Sea. Spring through autumn gives you decent weather odds.
